Each
diamond is weighed on a diamond scale to determine its carat weight. Each
carat is 100 points, therefore while a 100 point diamond is one carat,
a diamond that is 50 points is considered a half carat.
A diamond's value is directly related to its carat weight. Because larger
diamonds are much more rare, their value increases exponentially with
carat weight. For this reason, a 2 carat diamond will always be worth
more than two 1 carat diamonds of the same quality.
